Back in 1981, Mike & Jen left their home in the UK to visit North America for the first time. It was a long trip down the West Coast from Vancouver in Canada to Los Angeles via Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon. Many trips later, in October 1999, they were in Tennessee at Davy Crockett’s birthplace near Limestone. There was a monument with the names of all the US states, and Mike & Jen counted that they had visited 34 plus Washington DC. So, they decided, why not visit the remaining 16 states? Thus was born the 50 Plus DC project (50 US States plus Washington DC) which they completed at Tulsa, Oklahoma on October 2nd, 2002. This website documents their many years of travelling in both the USA and Canada, and provides a brief introduction to neighbours, Cuba and Mexico.

New York City has had another update,. Following our rather wet 2019 trip the pages on Brooklyn, Chelsea & Gramercy and the Upper East Side have been updated. There is also new material on Arizona and Wyoming.
Florida is finished! Not the state but our expanded section on Florida. A new section on Miami, plus new pages on Fort Lauderdale Fort Myers, Koreshan SHP, Naples, Palm Beach. the Ringling Museum, St Petersburg and Tampa.
In 2018 we visited Colorado and this has resulted in new pages on Pueblo and La Junta. We started this trip in Northern California and just 6 weeks afterwards wildfires struck the area with appalling loss of life. We have added some photographs that we took of the area before it was destroyed to the Gold Country page.
In 2019 we visited Arkansas for the first time since 2004. The Hot Springs page has been updated, more to follow.
On March 30, 2020 Jen passed away leaving Mike heartbroken and bringing to an end nearly 40 years of shared adventures in North America. Having lost his soulmate, Mike does not expect to return to North America, but this is not the end of 50 plus DC. The last trip was in early 2020 and there is plenty to publish from that and other recent trips. There will be a pause but 50 plus DC will continue. The picture of Jen was taken in Big Bend National Park, TX in January 2020.
